Review: Marked house of night book 1 3 of 5 stars. I started rereading this series due to nostalgia, and I wish I could say it lived up to the expectations I had when I was younger. I am so happy I took the time to reread it as I am trying to work on myself and allow myself to relive pieces of my childhood I didn't get to live out properly. I am 24 years old and I suffer from PTSD due to childhood trauma so I am living through my childhood books as I can. I really had high hopes going into this book because I truthfully wanted to fill that void that I was feeling and try to heal that inner child who begged to keep her books when her dad went on a religious rant.

Spoilers ahead. Marked is about a teen who is named Zoey Redbird becoming a vampire. She gets sent to the house of night where she can undergo the change into vampire. So we learn about the history of vampires and we see how she adjusts to her new life. There were so many things that made me wonder why I wanted to reread this book again. Erik Night is the "love interest" for Zoey in this book. His character in this book is so lack luster. We see them sneak out for a ritual and this is after Zoey finally agrees to give him a chance. He tells Zoey that Aphrodite drugged the guards so they could sneak out and he says this like there is nothing wrong with that and Zoey is left wondering why he is so okay with her doing these things. Zoey is brought into the Dark Daughters and she realizes that she has affinity for all the elements and could possibly have the ability to be more. Her mark is quite different than those of the other students. So as much as I wanted to give that piece of myself her moment. I just don't know. I honestly may continue the series but for now I am not sure. This is one of those books I went back and read for younger me but I can't see I liked it as much as I thought I would.
