We were liars by E. Lockhart

Spoilers ahead. This one was a read I picked up and I really enjoyed it. Cadence Sinclair was a character I connected with on a few different levels. I connected in the growing up depending on my mother solely for a while. My dad didn’t necessarily leave but it felt like he did. When I started this book I had my hopes as to what it would be about and they were dashed. Cadence Sinclair has memory loss and we don’t really get to know why until towards the end of the summer. We learn so much about her and the other lairs consisting of Mirren, Johnny and Gat. Part of me loved the relationship that we learn about between Gat and Cadence but part of me was left wondering why he just up and stopped having anything to do with her after that summer. But the more we read the more I realized their was so much going on that the first part didn’t even touch on. Part of me thought it was weird that no one got her emails while she was in Europe or why she had to go to family dinners and they didn’t. The fact that they all stayed in Cuddledown. I read this over a couple of days and the closer I got to the end the more attached I became with the characters. All for it to be an ending where Gat, Mirren, and Johnny died. They died doing what they thought would save parts of their family. My heart was broken because you realize just how twisted the story gets before they make it to the end and tell us what happened and why they weren’t around during the time where everything really changed for her. Her mom wanted to protect her the family from the feelings they might have surrounding the deaths. But in reality her mom and the others avoidance of what happened hurt so much more than finding out about the deaths did.

Again a short review for Instagram initially.
